Welcome:

CareTakers is a documentary film project about South Africa's rich natural heritage, and the dedicated people who care for it. In the face of overwhelming biodiversity loss, habitat degradation, and human-induced climate change, there is a pressing need for clear calls to effective action. These films are intended to educate, advocate and inspire people to become active parts of the solution.

The project has been launched with a series of eight short films that profile some inspiring South Africans working to protect our natural resources. These films were funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund with a view to profiling our country and our people. In the making, we met ordinary South Africans doing extraordinary things, in spectacular and diverse environments.

These eight films, which have hardly scratched the surface of South Africa's wealth of cultural and biological diversity, will form the basis for an educational programme. Using the STEPS methodology of facilitated screenings, and targeting primarily the youth, the films will be augmented by other learning materials, and will be taken pro-actively into the learning domain. More film material will follow.
